ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Environmental Planner will play a crucial role in supporting project management teams and guiding the development of sustainable projects. You will be integral to the planning, permitting, and compliance phases, helping to shape environmentally responsible projects that meet regulatory standards.
This position combines office-based planning (70%) with occasional fieldwork (30%) to ensure effective project oversight and regulatory compliance.
As an Environmental Planner, your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing environmental plans and strategies for various projects
- Preparing regulatory applications and permitting documents
- Conducting site assessments and identifying potential environmental impacts
- Coordinating environmental assessments, including wildlife, vegetation, and habitat evaluations
- Collaborating with project managers and multidisciplinary teams
- Communicating with stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and community members
- Analyzing data to support mitigation planning and compliance measures
- Creating detailed technical reports and presentations
- Staying current with environmental legislation and industry standards
Skills and Qualifications We Seek:
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Familiarity with environmental planning, permitting, and regulatory processes
- Knowledge of relevant federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations
- Experience in land use planning, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with clients, regulators, and team members
- Knowledge of AER OneStop and Public Land Act regulations (an asset)
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and environmental data analysis (an asset)
- Eligibility for Alberta’s Professional Regulatory Organizations
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements
- Valid driver’s license

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Vegetation Ecologist will play an essential role in conducting field surveys, analyzing vegetation data, and supporting environmental impact assessments. This position is suited for someone with a strong background in botany and ecosystem dynamics, along with excellent reporting skills.
Fieldwork will comprise approximately 70% of your responsibilities, with travel to remote sites, while the remaining 30% will involve in-office analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities as a Vegetation Ecologist:
- Conduct vegetation surveys, habitat assessments, and rare plant inventories
- Identify and monitor plant species and assess community health and diversity
- Evaluate potential environmental impacts on vegetation and ecosystems
- Analyze data to support habitat restoration and conservation strategies
- Prepare technical reports and contribute to environmental impact assessments
- Work collaboratively with project managers, biologists, and other specialists
- Assist in preparing regulatory applications and compliance documentation
- Stay up-to-date with provincial and federal vegetation and environmental guidelines
- Engage with stakeholders, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure project alignment
Skills and Qualifications We Seek:
- Strong knowledge of botany, plant taxonomy, and ecological processes
- Experience with vegetation surveys, plant identification, and habitat assessments
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and environmental data analysis (an asset)
- Understanding of relevant environmental regulations and compliance requirements
- Proficiency in technical writing and data reporting
- Ability to work independently and adapt to various field conditions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Eligibility for Alberta’s Professional Regulatory Organizations
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
