ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Wildlife Biologist will be responsible for conducting wildlife surveys, monitoring biodiversity, and contributing to environmental impact assessments. This role is ideal for someone who is skilled in data analysis, has strong attention to detail, and can effectively communicate scientific findings.
This position involves fieldwork (70%), with travel and remote work, and in-office analysis and reporting (30%).
Key Responsibilities as a Wildlife Biologist:
- Conduct wildlife surveys, species inventories, and habitat assessments
- Perform field assessments for project impact analysis
- Identify, monitor, and evaluate sensitive wildlife species and ecosystems
- Analyze data to inform conservation strategies and mitigation measures
- Prepare detailed technical reports and summaries
- Liaise with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
- Assist with permit applications and regulatory compliance documentation
- Stay current with wildlife and environmental regulations and best practices
- Support other team initiatives to ensure project success
Skills and Qualifications We Seek:
- Strong observational and field research skills
- Proficiency in identifying wildlife species and understanding their habitats
- Knowledge of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance
- Familiarity with GIS and wildlife mapping software (an asset)
- Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal wildlife legislation
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing field conditions
- Strong communication skills for technical report writing and stakeholder engagement
- Eligibility for Alberta’s Professional Regulatory Organizations
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
